Program Manager - Bike Culture Program

Job Description

About the Position
The Bike Culture Program Manager at Walton Enterprises is responsible for working with external consultants and internal stakeholders to design and implement a best-in-class bike-friendly business strategy across family organizations.

Ultimately, this program should serve as an inspiring model for companies across Northwest Arkansas, helping transform our region into one of the most dynamic cycling cultures in America.

This position will be based in Bentonville, but will also encompass out-of-state locations. Occasional travel will be required.

What you will do

You will work to ensure broad-based relevance and inclusivity of our bike programs in order to maximize associate engagement – regardless of their cycling experience level. We’re as excited to bring down barriers for novices as we are to offer a compelling program for seasoned riders.

Responsibilities include:

Incentives
• Work with external consultants and with key members of the HR, Finance and management at family organizations to develop options for incentives to encourage cycling -- including cash, subsidies and reimbursements for bikes, gear, event fees, bike club fees, health insurance premiums, etc. This will include getting expert input on the tax implications of various incentive options.
• Once family organizations choose the best-suited plan, work on an ongoing basis to educate and encourage associates to take advantage of this benefit. Also, establish and track KPIs for associate engagement with the incentive program.

Education
• Work with our external consultants to design curriculum for a “Safe Cycling 101” intro class, a hands-on basic maintenance (i.e. “Fix-a-Flat”) clinic, and an adult learn-to-ride class/clinic, with a focus on people new to riding.
• Develop detailed plans to create an ongoing series of guided rides for new riders.
• Find and educate local instructors and ride leaders using a train-the-trainers approach in order to maximize scale of potential new rider engagement.
• Develop a Bike Champions/Mentors program that engages avid cyclist employees who want to help new riders.
• Establish and track KPIs that measure associate engagement with our education programs and their impact on ridership at family organizations.

Events
• Develop a year-round calendar of events to encourage cycling by associates. These events should engage novices in safe, fun group rides on low-stress networks, with particular attention paid to maximizing participation in the annual, nationwide Bike-to-Work Day. This calendar of events should also offer compelling options for intermediate and advanced riders, and should include both mountain biking and road riding.
Shared Bikes
• Develop a plan for an expanded shared bike fleet for family organizations. This will include plans for selecting bikes, housing them, maximizing their usage, coordinating with internal & external service providers for maintaining them, and tracking them.
• Implement an online reservation system, and educate associates on this system’s usage.
Internal Communications
• Develop and execute the strategy, content and distribution of a periodic all-things-cycling communication within family organizations

External Marketing
• Research relevant best-of lists, including timing and fees for submissions, and develop recommendations and a budget for promoting the Bike Friendly Business programs at our organizations. In addition, explore potential PR possibilities for doing the same. Work with internal and external communications resources to capitalize on these opportunities.

End-of-Trip (EOT) Bike Facilities
• Work with external consultants and internal property management to develop and execute plans and budgets for bike storage, lockers, showers and other amenities required to promote cycling commuting by associates.
• Partner with internal property management to manage the construction, upkeep and overall quality of these facilities. In addition, you should monitor facility utilization and provide feedback on capacity.

Employee Feedback
• Periodically design and implement surveys to help inform the development and evolution of bike programs.

Who we are looking for

You have a passion for cycling and a willingness to share this passion in a way that leads others to embrace bike riding.

Additional helpful experience includes:

• Knowledge of municipal regulations regarding transportation and cycling
• Knowledge of Northwest Arkansas

Personal attributes that support your success

• Be fully available and show eagerness to assist family, Walton Enterprises and family organizations to handle any/all logistics related to bikes and bicycle service needs.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, problem solver with a demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines and a commitment to customer service.
• Intellectual agility and the ability to analyze and think critically.
• Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor with demonstrated ability to maintain discretion in dealing with highly confidential information.
• Innate desire to improve processes and efficiencies, and be able to articulate ideas to peers, executives, and external partners.
• Time management skills, the ability to work independently with moderate to no supervision, willingness to take initiative, and capacity to take on additional projects.
• Unquestionable ethics and integrity.
