Art Bridges is seeking a skilled and highly motivated individual to join the team as Registrar. The successful candidate will have experience in all areas of collection and exhibition management, a clear communication style, and a proven history of proactively balancing multiple tasks.

About the Position
You’ll join a top-notch team and oversee all registration functions with the Art Bridges collection. Reporting to the CEO of Art Bridges, with day-to-day supervision by the Head of Collections Management of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, you will maintain the highest stewardship standards related to the Art Bridges collection and an active and varied program of exhibitions. Working closely with the Art Bridges and Crystal Bridges teams, this role is expected to engage collaboratively with a range of museums that have varying staffing, capacity, expertise and experience.

What you will do
You will oversee all aspects of collection care and documentation related to the growing Art Bridges collection. In addition, you will manage the logistics of loans, packing, and art shipments, and direct art installations.

• Monitor the condition of all Art Bridges collection objects and, in consultation with curators and conservators, coordinate conservation of objects as necessary.
• Enter and update object information, as well as loan and exhibitions records, in the collections management database (TMS).
• Create and maintain hardcopy files.
• Coordinate photography of the collection and storage of image files.
• Receive and respond to internal and external requests for use of collection images.
• Obtain copyright permission related to reproduction requests, when needed.
• Assist with annual inventory of the collection.
• In consultation with CEO and Head of Collections Management, review with insurance broker appropriate insurance coverage for collection and exhibitions.
• Receive and process all requests for loans from the Art Bridges collection.
• Coordinate all aspects of outgoing loans, including reviewing facilities reports and preparing condition reports and loan agreement.
• Arrange for safe packing and transport of collections objects to and from other institutions and coordinate courier arrangement.
• In coordination with the Art Bridges traveling exhibitions team, manage logistics for exhibition tours.
• Act as courier, as assigned, to accompany exhibitions in order to supervise safe handling, unpacking, installation, and repacking.
• Provide regular reports to the Head of Collections Management and the Art Bridges team pertaining to art movement, loan activity, and collection care.

Physical demands
• The position requires utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination. Position also requires verbal and written conversation with others, as well as standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, strenuous lifting/moving objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.

Work environment
• Work will mainly be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. Position requires independent overnight travel as well as occasional evening and weekend work.

About Art Bridges
Art Bridges is a new foundation, founded by Alice Walton, whose mission is to share outstanding examples of American art with those that have limited access to them. Art Bridges organizes and administrates exhibitions of American art for display at public and academic art museums of all sizes. These exhibitions draw from Art Bridges’ growing collection, and the collections of partner institutions, foundations, and private collectors.

The exhibitions supported by Art Bridges are engaging, content-rich, and include in-depth educational and interpretive materials. They range from single-object loans to fully developed thematic exhibitions, and include support for programming, community outreach, audience engagement, and meaningful evaluation.

Basic Qualifications

• Degree from accredited college or university required, with coursework in art, art history, museum studies or related field
• 5+ years of experience in museum registration and/or collections care
• 1+ year of experience with exhibition management. May be concurrent with collections experience
• Knowledge of American art and a familiarity with artists’ materials required
• Knowledge of current conservation standards and practices
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of collections management filing and record-keeping
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
• Ability to obtain valid passport
• Proficiency in the use of MS Office software to include: Outlook, Word, Excel
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Solid knowledge of collection management software, TMS preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to think critically and exercise discretion and independent judgment
