Job Description

Walton Enterprises is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the team as an Art Preparator. The ideal teammate will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to adapt to changing needs, as well as the demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple teams. You must have a high level of organization and attention to detail with an ability to manage multiple projects in unison, while also always providing a polished and professional client facing experience.

About the Position

You’ll join a top-notch team and The Art Preparator is responsible for all technical aspects of art handling related to installations and maintenance of art objects in private homes, commercial spaces, offices, hospitality concepts, and outdoor spaces. The Preparator is a key team member for planning and implementing collection rotations.


What you will do

You will have advanced knowledge of art preparation techniques, principles and practices and will also have a solid knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques and construction processes. They will understand preventative conservation, security, storage, shipping and receiving. They will also possess the ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality possible.


Responsibilities

• Work with Art Collections Manager to plan and implement the design, installation, and de-installation of art, including outdoor sculpture
• Work with Art Collections Manager to identify needs or issues pertaining to upcoming exhibitions or specific artworks and find solutions
• Manage the handling, crating, packing and transportation of artwork to, from, and within properties
• Research and implement efficient storage and display methods and coordinated with storage facility to assure the safe care and handling of the collection
• Oversee the regular care and maintenance of artwork, including dusting, condition reporting, washing and waxing of sculpture, etc.
• Work directly with artists, as necessary, on site-specific installations
• Maintain appropriate collection documentation as required
• Oversee the maintenance and operation of work areas and retain proper inventory of supplies and materials
• Plan, prioritize, and schedule short-term and long-term projects and set job assignments to meet deadlines and priorities
• In conjunction with the Art Collections Manager, establish and implement proper procedures for art handling
• Work with and supervise contract installers, and property management staff who are available to assist with installs

About the Property Management Department

Property Management: The Property Management team assists the family members with all property related activities including acquisition, design, and development. They manage a variety of properties including both personal and commercial real estate, vehicles, equipment, and other property related assets throughout the country. The Property Management team also supports the Walton Family Foundation and Walton Enterprises office buildings.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in fine art handling, exhibition installation, packing and storage.
• 3+ years proven supervisory and management experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of art-handling procedures for two- and three-dimensional art objects in a variety of materials, sizes and weights, including the rigging and movement of art.
• In-depth knowledge of museum-quality packing, crating and framing.
• Strong technical skills in basic construction, fabrication and installation methods; proper use and care of power and manual tools, lifts, and other pertinent equipment.
• Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and software.
• Experience with collection management software
• Willing to travel 10%
