Job Description

The Founder of the private Chicago Family Office and his wife are active philanthropists and investors who are committed to positively impacting the environment and society. They believe in investing with purpose, with the goal of improving quality of life while protecting the health of the planet. It includes four teams: a philanthropy team that manages the Foundation and coordinates philanthropic efforts; a food and agriculture venture capital team focused on sustainability; an investment management team; and an operations team that provides general management as well as strategic and administrative support. The Founder serves as the CEO of the overall enterprise.

A private family office in Chicago is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the execution of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and impact investments across multiple portfolios.

About the Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for investment analysis in the context of portfolio construction/asset allocation, fund manager due diligence, and investment monitoring with an ESG and impact investing lens. ESG and impact investments will be made across a variety of types of portfolios including a private foundation and a taxable portfolio and across assets classes including equities, bonds, venture capital and infrastructure investments, among others. This position will also play an important role in constructing, implementing and evaluating a new impact measurement and management framework.

What you will do

Responsibilities
• Investment analysis and research, including quantitative and qualitative assessments of impact fund managers, capital markets and asset allocation/portfolio construction work. Nearly everything will incorporate an ESG and impact investing lens. Impact investments will range from “impact-first” to market rate
• Impact measuring and monitoring (IMM) – working with a cross-office team to develop and implement an IMM framework across multiple portfolios
• Special investment projects as needed such as thematic impact investment landscapes or program-related investments done in partnership with foundation program officers
• Produce written and presentation materials to communicate the above investment and impact analysis to our Executive Principals
• Obtain the third-party analyses—external consultants, tax, legal etc.—and Executive Principal approvals required to execute investments
• Provide ongoing monitoring existing investments, including reviewing monthly and quarterly manager reports, annual meeting attendance, and regular check-ins with fund managers (in person at times)
• Perform other duties as required and necessary to accomplish goals and objectives

• A university degree with a record of high achievement
• 1-2 years of work experience in investments, investment banking or consulting
• Demonstrable interest in ESG and impact investing
• Solid Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

Hiring Process
After initial interviews, qualified candidates will be invited (on a rolling basis until the position is filled) to complete a take-home case study designed to assess the degree to which they meet the basic qualifications for the role. Candidates who successfully complete the case study will be invited to a final round super-day—either by video conference, or in-person if circumstances permit.

About the Investments Team
We are a multi-asset class private investment firm providing patient capital to impact-oriented opportunities in food and agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, and renewable energy. We are part of a dedicated, single-family office that also includes an investment management team, a private foundation, a venture capital firm and an operations team.
