About the Position
Walton Enterprises (WEI) seeks a skilled, highly motivated senior policy professional to join the political and communications team as a senior policy officer, reporting to the director of the Walton Family Political and Communications office. The position will be based in Washington D.C.

What you will do
A new position for this exciting and entrepreneurial organization, the senior policy officer will coordinate issue and public policy assignments across a range of business and philanthropic priorities. You will forge and maintain key relationships within states and localities, handle strategic planning for policy-related programs and advise on complex regulations and policies. You will coordinate with colleagues on integrated programs and identify and manage external issue experts on policy areas of interest.

Specific duties include the following:
• Conduct analysis of state and local legislation and regulations on key policy issues.
• Maintain deep understanding of policy matters through engagement with policy organizations, consultants, as well as other internal and external experts.
• Track and monitor public policy activity.
• Build relationships with key internal business partners and relevant external organizations.
• Prepare executive briefing documents and contribute to executive conversations guiding strategic direction.
• Serve as eyes and ears for pending policy issues and liaise with executive team to coordinate and execute strategy, including internal and external messaging recommendations.

You are adept at serving as a trusted, strategic adviser to key stakeholders and possess a proven track record in executive communications and support.

Qualifications required for your success
• 8+ years of experience working in public affairs and/or policy roles
• Ability to react quickly and work against tight deadlines
• Experience working with senior government and agency officials
• Strong oral and written communications and presentation skills
• Ability to coordinate and lead project teams
