Bike Mechanic

Job Description

The Bike Mechanic reports directly to the Bike Culture Program Manager.  They will be primarily reasonable for the maintenance and delivery of the Runway ecosystem and Walton Enterprise bicycle fleet.

The mission of the Bike Culture Program is to ensure an efficient and organized Bike Culture Program team that is ready to respond and engage with cycling needs at a high level for the ecosystem, family members and VIP guests.  The Bike Mechanic is a critical component to the success of the department; ensuring high-levels of quality customer service and serving as a bike champion to the organization.

 

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include:  

·        Performs scheduled and non-scheduled service and maintenance of the ecosystem bike inventory.  On an assigned basis, the need to perform off-site maintenance on Walton family bicycles may be required.

·        Responsibility for ensuring all aspects of operational quality and safety of family and ecosystem bicycle fleets.  This includes new bike assembly, maintenance and cleaning. Priority is on ecosystem bicycle needs but focus also extends to bicycles owned and used by Walton family, VIPs and guests of ecosystem.

o   Maintenance may include, but is not limited to, bearing adjustments, brake bleeding, suspension service, wheel truing, drivetrain overhauls, cable/housing replacement, and bar wrapping.

·        Record time, materials and parts required for each assignment.

·        Adhering to Bike Culture Program budget, provide quotes on expenses and parts needed.

·        Maintain inventory of parts used/needed and allocate appropriately.

·        Maintain organized and efficient service area.

·        In Partnership with the Bike Culture Program Manager and Bike Concierge, assist in organization of bike reservations and availability.

·        Proactively identify issues with bicycles and their performance; assist with one-on-one maintenance issues, as needed.

·        Cultivate courteous and high-functioning relationships with local bike shops and other vendors to maintain a properly stocked bicycle service area, and to have ready access to backup labor assistance, as approved by Bike Culture Program Manager.

·        As directed by the Bike Program Manager, move bikes to and from different locations.

·        Support the ecosystem’s Bicycle Friendly Business Strategy; this includes, but is not limited to, education, events, shared bikes and end-of-trip facilities.

·        Encourage and support all efforts to cultivate a bike-friendly identity for Walton Enterprises and related family organizations, as well as for Bentonville and other communities in which they are actively engaged in cycling investments or infrastructure.

·        Assist in trail maintenance, as needed.

·        Responsible for multi-point inspections, maintenance, and cleanliness of OZ Trails van; this includes, but is not limited to, fueling, oil changes, washing and vacuuming, and light replacements.

·        Learn, understand, and adhere to company policy, programs, and standards.

·        Perform other tasks assigned by management

Education/Experience/Qualifications/Skills:

·        Advanced technical knowledge of bicycle maintenance

·        Formal training/certification in bicycle mechanics

·        Ability to work with computers, cell-phones, and relevant business systems to track work orders and inventory.

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

·        Demonstrated team player and communication skills

·        Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

·        Ability to problem solve in a fast paced, evolving department.

·        Ability to complete satisfactory background and motor-vehicle check.

Work Environment:

  • Usually work indoors, but may occasionally work outdoors when testing a bike.
  • Are sometimes exposed to contaminants, such as lubricant.
  • May on occasion be exposed to sounds and noise levels that might be uncomfortable.
  • Are exposed on a weekly basis to hazardous situations and equipment that might produce minor cuts or burns. They often wear protective attire as a precaution.
  • Work near others, usually several feet apart.
