VP of Finance

Job Description

Position Overview:
A small real estate company, based in Colorado, is seeking an experienced Vice President of Finance with strong financial and accounting real estate experience to institute financial management and oversight of a quickly growing organization. The VP of Finance will report directly to the President of the company and must be able to work in a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion and tight deadlines. Navigating responsibilities with a high sense of professionalism is paramount.

Major Responsibilities:
• Management of day-to-day finance/operations needs to include accounts receivable and payable
• Financial reporting to provide focused financial and operating data to team
• Maintain corporate long-term model
• Development and ongoing review of key operating and reporting systems to ensure efficiency
• Develop and evolve analysis tools to evaluate operations and opportunities
• Provide extensive input and analysis on transaction documents and reporting
• Monitor, review and provide input on project level development budgets
• Develop effective and efficient resource planning tools
• Develop and maintain all lending and banking relationships
• Oversee all aspects of construction, bridge, mezzanine and permanent financing
• Manage interest rate risk and maturity of loan portfolio
• Create marketing and reporting materials to be used with potential investors
• Oversight of loan compliance and reporting
• Responsible to compile quarterly and annual financial statements
• Responsible to oversee preparation and management of all state and federal tax reporting
• Lead all tax planning and forecasting including Opportunity Zones, State and Federal Historic Tax Credits, Rehabilitation Credits

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate must be efficient, organized, service-oriented and a self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community-oriented. They must be high-energy and willing to “do” in addition to delegate. The chosen candidate will have a strong track record and understanding of financial and accounting matters related to real estate. They will possess the ability to intelligently (re)assess policies and structures to meet the changing needs of the company as required.

Required Skills:
• Bachelor of Science or Arts, degree in accounting or finance a plus
• Minimum of 10 years of real estate finance experience, including accounting experience in real estate development and hospitality
• Familiarity with multiple accounting software systems and the ability to design an accounting and reporting platform to meet the needs of a growing real estate company
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, contract negotiation
• Well-versed in GAAP and pertinent tax principles
• Experience in budgetary controls in an investment environment
• Demonstrated abilities to implement a treasury management solution
• Ability to be a team player and work with project managers on understanding budget variances and enhanced forecasting
• Ability to pass an extensive background check, employment verification, and other pre-hire paperwork
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• A self-starter who proactively anticipates needs and takes ownership in finding applicable solutions
• Willing to travel 20% of the time

Preferred Skills:
• Experience with opportunity zones
• MBA and/or CPA, but not required
