About the Position
River Bend Holdings is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and adaptable individual to join the organization as a Director of Tax. This position reports directly to our Chief Operating Officer and works collaboratively with the members of our related family office, accounting team and external tax team.
What you will do
The Director of Tax will oversee/assist with all aspects of the tax planning, preparation and review process with a concentration on trust tax engagements. Individual will also oversee/assist with all miscellaneous tax projects and oversee/conduct complex tax research to support the clients tax compliance and reporting. Individual will compile all tax workpapers, review and ensure that all filings are made in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of tax engagements including tax planning, preparation and review of primarily trust income tax returns and other tax returns as appropriate
Manage external tax team to ensure timely and accurate preparation of all returns and filings
Evaluate external tax team on an ongoing basis and suggest enhancements to overall tax process
Responsible for all timely filing of all tax estimates and filings by working with internal accounting team and external tax team
Perform, oversee, participate in, and/or review technical tax research, analysis, and written memorandum
Prepare and review income tax projections; identify and document tax planning positions
Manage and assist as needed any federal and state tax audits and assist in negotiating tax positions
Help determine need for additional staff level positions and ensure proper execution of assignments
Recognize complex technical issues, initiate internal and advisory process to reach appropriate conclusions and apply knowledge to support conclusions
Participate in mentoring, training, recruiting, retention and team-building activities
Present internal training on technical issues as needed
Offer ongoing status updates to management and to the engagement team

Qualifications required for your success
The Director of Tax must possess the following professional qualifications:
Bachelors degree
10+ years of tax compliance and advisory skills with the focus in Fiduciary Income Tax
CPA certification
Public accounting experience
Knowledge of federal, state and local tax laws
Hands on experience with review and preparation of all forms and schedules related to fiduciary income tax returns
Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in tax compliance and consulting
Experience with foreign reporting common to high wealth investing and foreign tax credit utilization, and tax minimization
Experience with various facets of state & local taxation and compliance & advisory issues related to trusts
Strong research and compliance skills
Proven ability to work on multiple entity engagements and adhere to tax deadlines
Excellent supervisory, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
Exceptional communication skills
Excellent project management and presentation skills
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
Additional Helpful Experience Includes
Advanced degree
Big 4 experience
Experience with tax preparation and research software
Familiarity with estate planning principles and techniques, and experience participating in client estate planning advisory processes
