A private Family Office with growing business and philanthropic initiatives is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and entrepreneurial individual to serve as its Director of Impact. This individual will be responsible for building and executing an overarching impact strategy to advance key issues, primarily related to supporting women and families. In addition to philanthropic grants, initiatives are advanced through a broad set of tools including investment and advocacy.
The Director of Impact will lead philanthropy and social impact for the organization including the strategy, implementation, and ongoing oversight of initiatives. This individual will work closely with peers leading investment and strategy to drive change by maximizing all of the organization’s tools for a holistic approach.
About the Role:
The Director of Impact will bring business acumen, strong leadership skills, and a service orientation. Key responsibilities include the following:
Planning and Strategy
With input from the Principal, develop theory of change, strategy, and goals for impact and advancement of key issues, primarily related to supporting women and families
Execute the strategy by working closely with relevant community stakeholders, partner funders, experts, and other entities
Partner and coordinate with investment and strategy team members to develop and execute a holistic impact approach that leverages philanthropy, investment, and advocacy tactics
Conduct research and develop collateral to educate key stakeholders and policymakers on initiatives to advance impact objectives
Exhibit an ability to influence public policy, build and maintain a strong reputation, and find common ground with stakeholders
Coordinate learning opportunities for the Principal aligned with a strategic framework
Maintain an understanding of regularly shifting issues, share relevant updates with the Principal and other stakeholders, and use information to drive decision making
Build and maintain deep relationships with diverse stakeholders
Maintain and protect the Principal’s desired level of public identity
Grantmaking
Translate overarching impact strategy into grantmaking framework
Source potential grantees and partner with them on proposal development
Conduct due diligence on grantees; develop and present funding recommendations to the Principal
Plan and conduct site visits as appropriate
Act as primary point of contact for grantees
Lead the design of data collection tools and the development of narrative, visual, and oral presentations resulting from analysis
Develop and implement frameworks to evaluate and communicate impact at the grant, portfolio, and strategy levels
Research emerging issues of interest and maintain current understanding of trends in the field
Project Management
Identify opportunities for new projects and initiatives using multisector partnerships, grantmaking, and other tactics to advance social impact
Build relationships with stakeholders (private, public and nonprofit) to develop opportunities into executable project/initiative pilot plans
Assess those opportunities, using rigorous analysis, to determine their potential for impact and alignment with strategy and approach
Lead pilots to understand the potential impact of the opportunity, the partners and the implementation challenges, including making grants to partner organizations
Develop and execute project plans, as appropriate

Qualifications:
10+ years of leadership and strategy experience with a mission-driven consulting firm or philanthropy organization
Strong experience with development of social impact strategies and execution of philanthropy portfolios including measurement, evaluation, and learning
Familiarity and comfort with impact investing and advocacy; understanding of how to use various impact tools as part of a holistic strategy
Exceptional client service skills and significant experience in a client service business (e.g., consulting)
Ability to build and execute effective strategies leveraging for-profit and not-for-profit funds as well as advocacy
Ability to "manage up" and keep work moving in dynamic environments
Demonstrated ability to assess and articulate risks and tradeoffs
Exceptional interpersonal, stakeholder engagement and project management skills
Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred

Basic Qualifications
