Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager will lead the payments processing team and oversee Runway Balance Sheet items including investments, fixed assets, and cash management. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the A/P team and will ensure that existing company policies and procedures are followed and will also develop new accounting processes and system integrations with appropriate controls in place for highly efficient operations. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for preparing the Runway Balance Sheet, making sure that appropriate daily cash balances are maintained for business operations, recording changes in Investment balances, as well as maintaining Fixed Asset accounts.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a demonstrated self-starter, a skilled and resourceful problem solver, and a service-oriented partner who will work to deliver world class service to our business partners.
Responsibilities
General responsibilities include:
Manage the A/P team providing an atmosphere that emphasizes quality and accuracy, integrity, and employee development and retention
Prepare accounting entries and reporting for all investments held at Runway. Coordinate with external parties, Runway tax team, and Runway leadership to ensure accurate recording of investment activity
Ensure proper controls and procedures are followed and proper approvals and documentation are obtained
Assist with oversight of A/P software integration projects from inception to implementation that result in standardization and efficiency
Submit annual 1099 reporting and other tax information as necessary
Review operating cash balances and upcoming cash needs to determine if sufficient cash is available
Direct and oversee the Fixed Asset processes, ensuring that all fixed assets are entered into the accounting system in a timely and accurate manner, and thoroughly reviewing all fixed assets reports and reconciliations
Coordinate month end activities with the other members of the accounting team for a seamless process from close to financial reporting and ensure deadlines for month end closing are met
Collaborate with other members of the accounting team to develop, establish, and implement departmental goals and to provide support for operational activities
Respond to requests and inquiries of management, auditors, or other external parties
Build trusted relationships with Runway team members and ecosystem partners
Education and Experience:
7-years relevant service in accounting, with 4 years supervisory experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, or equivalent experience
Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and Word
Knowledge of ERP accounting systems and experience implementing processes & procedures to enforce company policies
Knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and best practices
Strong interpersonal skills, adept at building trust and developing relationships
Accomplished problem solver with ability to develop creative, collaborative, efficient solutions
Preferred qualifications include
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or advanced degree.
Experience hiring, training, and evaluating employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product – including motivating and rewarding employees
Experience with NetSuite ERP
1099 preparation experience

Working Conditions
This position operates in a professional office environment during regular business hours. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, multi-use photocopier machine and personal cell phone. Occasional remote work at the discretion of the hiring manager.
